The Borough of Shiloh, Cumberland County, acting through the Cumberland Development Corporation (CDC) and in partnership with the Cumberland County Planning Board is preparing a regional growth and development strategy and implementation mechanisms (the Western / Southern Cumberland Region Strategic Growth Management Plan) to advance economic development in the 12  municipalities to be studied.

The plan would permit the municipalities to efficiently manage land and infrastructure resources, and to share the costs and benefits of development in an equitable manner.

Through inter-municipal cooperation, development can be encouraged in those places best able to attract and accommodate it. The Western / Southern Cumberland Region Strategic Growth Management Plan (Strategic Growth Management Plan), by securing agreement from constituent municipalities on the nature of desired development and how best to provide it, will extend beyond the work of designating centers in the State Plan. The Strategic Growth Management Plan will assist CDC communities in realizing the plans expressed for these centers.

Participants and leaders in this project are developing a  Regional Strategic Growth Management Plan that will find a balance between economic development and environmental protection, recognizing the rights of property owners and the need to insure the public good.

These are all interrelated issues, which require balance to sustain and enhance the quality of life Cumberland County residents have chosen and maintain. Development, redevelopment and conservation efforts must be mutually compatible to foster the plan’s support throughout Cumberland County.
